Seabee Shipmates,

It is great sadness that I report to you the untimely death of Captain John Elkins, CEC, USN, Retired.

I received this email from Mrs. Elkins 3-29-2015 and it is edited.

Hello Norm Hahn, We had made reservations at the Gulfport Hotel and had planned to attend the Reunion. (the May 2015 Gulfport All Seabee Reunion)
Sadly, on February 14 th, on a Mekong River Cruise, John Carroll Elkins died. We had not yet departed On the River Cruise and John died in Saigon. He had contracted Pneumonia on the long plane ride and went into Severe Ceptic Shock. Please let any other Seabees, (that might remember him) know. Thank you, Beth.

(the following edited portion is taken from Captain Elkins NMCB 62 website biography)
John C. Elkins enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1962, entered the Reserve Officer Candidate (ROC) program and was commissioned a CEC Officer. He held many positions including Commanding Officer of NMCB 62 from 1982 through 1984. He retired in August 1991 as Captain, CEC, USN.

He will be missed. We wish our Seabee Brother, Captain John Elkins, fair winds and following seas.

NMCB 62 Alumni Group Members can log in on this website link 21 to view his complete biography. Anyone wishing to make a memorial statement can send it to me in an email and I will put it into his biography or they can post it in this guest book.

Respectfully, Norm
